Cheese & Wine & Trophy Presentation – 22nd September 2023

A total of 21 people attended the popular cheese and wine event which was run this year in association with the presentation of the trophies to this year’s winners of the club competitions. U3A Challenge Match – 13th September 2023

The annual match between U3A members and Spixworth was extremely well supported this season, with all 6 rinks in operation. Members of Spixworth who are also members of U3A played for the latter. The overall result was a win for Spixworth. A superb mix of refreshments were provided by the U3A members, and the Spixworth players provided the raffle prizes.

Roy Allen Pairs – 9th,16th & 23rd August 2023

The annual Roy Allen pairs competition started a week late due to adverse weather. The number of teams that entered this year was lower than in previous seasons, but seven pairs took part. Each team played the other pairs over the three evenings, with the winners being John White & John Wade, and the runners up were Steve Blanch & Peter Betts.

Fun bowls – 22nd July 2023

Despite a dull and slightly drizzly afternoon, the weather did not deter a total of 51 family and friends turning out to enjoy a great afternoon of fun bowls. Club members, together with relatives, friends and U3A members played three rounds of the course with a break for refreshments. Afterwards a group of 59 sat down to enjoy a ‘chip shop’ tea in the club house.

Tom Turner Trophy – June 25th 2023

A scorching hot day, saw 8 teams of 3 players play 4 games each. At the end, 3 teams had each won 3 games, but with a better shots difference Peter Betts, Jack Steward & John Wade were presented with the trophy, and the runners up were Ron & Helen Butler supported by new member Janet Appleton, who has only just started playing bowls this season. Afterwards there was a raffle and everyone enjoyed the bring and share food.

Curtis Cup – 4th June 2023

Members took part in a bowls drive to contend for the Curtis Cup; despite it being a lovely day, the turn out was not as good as in previous years, but those who took part enjoyed an afternoon of bowls, followed by a feast of sharing platters. Only two players won all their matches, Duncan & Morag McEwan, but as Morag had a better shots difference she was declared the overall winner.
