This year we celebrated the 45th anniversary of the Midsummer Event which was open to both members and non members.Twenty seven people took part in a bowls drive of four blocks of five ends, with the teams changing each block.The event was won by Peter Fisher who was the only person to be on a winning side for all four blocks (8pts) and had an impressive shot difference of +33. Fun Bowls & BBQ – 20th July
Nearly 50 members, friends & family enjoyed an afternoon of Fun Bowls; participants were divided into 9 teams, for a fun afternoon consisting of 11 different challenges laid out on the green. Two complete rounds were played and scores varied between 2300 & 3050 points. The competition winners were made up of primarily U3A members, who meet at the club every Wednesday morning. Afterwards a bbq cooked by Greenkeeper Steve was enjoyed by all. Tom Turner Trophy – 23rd June
On a very warm & sunny afternoon, 5 teams of 3 players played each other, with one team sitting out each round. At the end of several competitive games there was a clear winner, with one team winning all their games; the team made up of Diana Harrison Jack Steward &Veronica Fisher were presented with the trophy by the organiser Mike Watson.
Bowls Open Day – Saturday 17th August 10am – 1pm
If you have ever wondered if you would like to play bowls, but never had the opportunity, this is the event for you. Why not come along and ‘have a go’; adults of all ages will be made welcome, and if you have not played before, friendly helpers will be on hand to show you the ropes. Curtis Cup – 2nd June
A total of 20 Full & Associate members competed for the first silverware of the season. The afternoon saw Peter Betts emerge as the overall winner. Food was provided by all players on a bring and share basis, with many delicious home made cakes and other treats available for all. Family & friends gathered on a lovely sunny Saturday to join in the annual fun bowls event at the club followed by a fish & chip tea.
Opening of the Green – 20th April 2024
The 2024 season got underway with 24 members taking part in a bowls drive on a very chilly, but dry Saturday. New member Mark Watkins won the event on his inaugural outing for the club.
Christmas Fun Party & Pantomime – 15th December 2023
Members & friends got into the ‘Christmas Spirit’, at the club’s fun party and panto, (“oh no they didn’t, oh yes they did”). Written and narrated by Veronica, a group of members (with many last minute understudies taking part due to sickness of the original cast) performed in a fusion of ‘Goldilocks & the 3 bears meet Aladdin & Prince Charming’ !!!!!! The Christmas festivities started early, with the popular sing-a long, followed by tea & cakes.
Annual General Meeting – 27th October 2023
The meeting gave all members the opportunity to hear from the committee on all things important concerning their club. Steve Benns was re-elected as Chairman, and Steve Blanch & Janet Appleton joined the committee. Steve Blanch took over as the captain of the Business League, with all other captains remaining in post. It was agreed to keep all fees at their present level for the forthcoming season.
