Fun Bowls – 18th July

This year’s Fun Bowls and BBQ proved to be another very popular day both with Members, friends & family alike.  Following yet another heatwave, everyone was grateful that the temperature dropped a little, and the weather was very  pleasant for the 60+ people who gathered to enjoy the afternoon whether playing or just watching.

59 players were divided into 10 teams, with the team with five players having their score adjusted when calculating the final scores.

In previous Fun Bowls competitions scores of around 5000 points were achieved by the winning team, however,  this time the ‘Course Designing Elves’ made the challenges a little more difficult !

After two rounds Helen & Ron Butler, John Roadley, Suzie Marshal and Marian & Peter Heyes who made up Team 3 were declared the winners scoring 3620 points just beating Team 4 (Mark Watkins, Angie Denholm, Family and Friends) who scored 3528 points.

Afterwards we all enjoyed hot dogs superbly cooked on the BBQ by Steve Blanch with the help of Steve Benns.

After we had all eaten, a ’ Golf Putting game’ and ‘Bowling for the Pig game’ were set up and contested, with the knowledge that joints of meat were the prizes for the winners ;  Paul Morris won the ‘Golf Putting’, and Sylvia Coward won the ‘Bowling for the Pig’.

A very big thank you to Steve Blanch our Chairman & Greenkeeper, who kindly donated all the meat purchased for the day and enabled us to raise even more for our Club Funds.

Also another big thank you to all who helped setting up in the morning, organising and running the raffle, supplying tea and coffee, running the Bar and finally washing up and helping to clear up afterwards.

A great team effort all round.
